TRNC - 22nd Anniversary
16 November marked the twenty-second anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It has been celebrated with ceremonies throughout the TRNC during which President Mehmet Ali Talat addressed and congratulated all citizens of TRNC in an official speech.
Mister Talat had again expressed readiness to solve the Cyprus question on the basis of proposals put forward by the United Nations and the reunification of the island. The leader of Turkish-Cypriotes had especially noted the importance of lifting of international restrictions currently imposed on TRNC and the presence of which has significantly constrained the economic development of TRNC. The lifting of the current economic blockade imposed on the Turkish part of the island, in his opinion, would be the most effective way to help speed up the settlement of the current situation on the island.
He also noted that at present time TRNC is at the stage of gradual institutionalisation. Mehmet Ali Talat further reinforced that the primary goal for the inhabitants as well as the leaders of Northern Cyprus, is the acceptance of all the necessary measures so as to prove to European Court of Human Rights, the European union and the international community that TRNC is not subordinate to Turkey and carries its authority out independently despite the fact that the connection with Turkey has a very important historical and practical significance.
